Ladies Are You Too Busy? Make Time!!

As I have been hustling and bustling with my usual Monday, like always, I try my hardest to nail as much on my “To-Do” list as possible. This usually includes cleaning the house, doing potty training my with twin two-year olds, doing lessons with my oldest so he won’t be unable to count or spell (every mom’s fear), and, at some point, relating Momathon to every day life! It seems as though every day is just a variation of the same. Sometimes, someone poops on the floor on accident. Sometimes my kids make me a swimming pool in the kitchen or paint the carpet with chocolate milk. On occasion, I try to get my exercise in during daytime hours only to be foiled by crying, fighting or the common “take over the world” mentality that my kids adopt when I’m not looking. But….either way, variations of the same!

With me constantly trying to be I’m-every-woman-Beyonce-she-queen, sometimes I get a little preoccupied with what’s not the most important. The truth is: once I clean my kitchen….I cook, and it’s dirty again! Once I vacuum, my babies eat graham crackers/popcorn/cookies and it must be done again….Once I work out, I shower…but…tomorrow, the same thing should happen again (and it takes even longer to see results….boo).
But how often do I stop with the busyness, commotion, self-absorption and OCD with having a spotless house or perfect hot mom bod and simply……….enjoy the moment? How often do any of us stop being so preoccupied with what seemingly demands the most attention, and focus on what may not be calling us quite as loudly? One thing that I am learning is that all time spent is not quality time. Just because I spend all day with my kids does not mean that I spend twelve hours of quality time with them. I cook, I clean, I break up fights, and I write and try to find some section of my life where I “do me.”
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 reminds us that there will be time for everything, whether we like it or not!
A time to give birth, a time to die…
A time to plant and a time to uproot what has been planted….
A time to weep and a time to laugh….
A time to mourn and a time to dance….
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing….
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together….
As I reflect on this today, I realize that whether I make time for the important things or not, time will still continue to go on. Every day, your loved ones are growing up, growing older, growing wiser……growing. From today to tomorrow, although it may seem identical, nothing will be the same. Take a few moments to reject the busyness and savor the moment….even if for only a few moments! Take the time to laugh, the time to dance, the time to embrace and the time to sew together, remembering that because the time for everything must come, this time, right now, is valuable, priceless and PRECIOUS!
How often do you truly take the time to savor the moment? What’s your biggest obstacle in being able to enjoy the “right now?”
